National Collaboration Programe Iceland

What is it?

The CAMS National Collaboration Programme (NPC) Iceland represents a initiative aimed at enhancing Iceland’s air quality monitoring capabilities and public awareness of environmental issues such as dust storms, volcanic ash impact, and their broader climate and health implications. Recognizing the unique environmental challenges Iceland faces, the NPC Iceland project integrates the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) data with in-situ measurements to offer unprecedented insights into atmospheric conditions.

Key Features:

Enhanced Monitoring Network: Establish three permanent and one temporary dust measurement stations across Iceland’s most active regions
Data Integration and Verification: Integration of CAMS products with new and existing in-situ measurements.
Interactive Web Map: The heart of the NPC Iceland project, our web map, offers a dynamic visualization of air quality data across Iceland.
Training and Knowledge Transfer: Organizing training events to educate a broad audience, including officials and researchers, on utilizing CAMS data effectively.
National Communication Strategy: Coordinated efforts to promote the project through various activities, engagement meetings, and campaigns.

Data behind

We use in the map data genereated provided by the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS). We also emphasize that neither the European Commission nor the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is responsible for any use that may be made of the information contained within our project.

Other data:
     – wind information in real-time from Road Administration service (see metadata portal),
     – Soil erosion in Iceland from Land and Forest (see metadata portal or read more about Soil erosion)
