High Latitude Dust at the Arctic Circle Assembly 2024

The Arctic Circle Assembly 2024 in Reykjavík hosted a session focused on the environmental challenges facing the Arctic, with a particular emphasis on High Latitude Dust (HLD) and its impacts on climate. A unique collaboration between Icelandic and Czech institutions, the session highlighted the role of Earth observations, such as Copernicus data, in tracking and responding to these challenges. Key Iceland-led initiatives, including the Icelandic Aerosol and Dust Association and the UArctic Thematic Network on HLD, were introduced, emphasizing the need for continued research and global collaboration to preserve the Arctic’s fragile ecosystem.
